I have never glued any water pump gasket on a Mercury V-6 or any outboard with never a gasket failure, don't see the point.

Are u using the wright fluid, because I know on sea star steering using the wrong fluid will mess up the seals.

if its a center steer, one out each side, if a side steer both down starboard side, out center right by gas tank cap.

I looked it up and they still sell it at bass pro, it's called the Cable buddy TM steering cable lubrication system. It comes with 1 nut and the bottle of lube with hose adaptor for 36.99, so u would need 2 kits. I have a used kit I had on before my hydraulic steering, but I can only find 1 nut.

Bass pro use to sell a kit that was 2- S/S nuts with a hole taped in each that has a nylon plug in it that had a bottle of max lube u would hook to it, worked great. The nuts took the place of the steering tube nuts and after install u would drill thru the hole in the nut thru the steering tube...

I think u won't get much more either, I have a 98 model with a 200 carb motor with 14 inch set back and 1/2 inch above pad I turn a 27 tempest about 6200, never clocked it with a gps. Also have a sports master with 6" bobs hydraulic plate on a 8 inch allison cut down plate.

you are correct, but some people run these lower units on lower Horse Power fishing motors that don't need the harder shafts, but want something that last longer without the seal area failing from corrosion.
