On the first test with the 225 Pro max, it was one of the first Pro max's out, the rev limiter was at about 7200, after Merc saw how stout it was they backed it down, I also had one of the very first ones, and it was faster then the others I had, I used to get one every 6 months for a couple of years, I was the one who also brought about the ecu change the plugs and what not, the first one I had popped, I was cruising about 4200 and it locked up, that is when they realized they had a lean spot.

Yep Myron. The first promaxes were really strong. My favorite is the 96 promax.

I can believe the speeds attained because as tbuck stated these aren't everyday setups.

I had a 97 sidesteer xb03 with a stock 98 150 promaxSS that had 34cc heads. It would spin a custom cut 28 chopper to 7400 on 1.87s to run an average of 91-93 with a best of 93.8 the boat would only run 86-88 with the troller and windshield on. It had a trick jc 200 case.

My 98 xb03 sideslide with my 200xs ros ran 101 with more in it while setup for big mph. I could spin my 30 triton 1 to the rev if I wanted but would only spin it 69-6950 because it would fall on it's face and drop 4-600 rpm when it touched the rev. I think i would have gone swimming if I touched the rev. I was using my jc xr6 with 1.78s. I wish I would have ran my 32et but I had engine trouble and by the time I got it all sorted out I had the sporty back on and started fishing with it again. I don't know how high it was, but I could lift the engine more if I could get water psi. I was definitely alot higher then when using a big case.

Per the March 2002 BWB (I miss that magazine) it was a 225X. 98 with a 30 ET on the rev limiter at 7000, 1.87 gears, 'spooky' handling. Then they put a J&L Marine modified torque master on and got 100 with a 32 modified chopper, again on the rev limiter, and another remark about poor handling.

Another article in the same issue compared gearcases with the 200XS on the same XB-2003. All with a 30 ET
Bob's 92.2, 6790
Hydromotive 89.6, 6700 overheating trouble and spun bearing carrier
J&J 93.4, 6800
Sporty 91.4, 6850

The April 2002 issue has the 96.4 200XS run with the T4X, but it does not specify the gearcase.
