Buying a 30 pitch hoss hyperdrive.

Boat-1997 xb2003, Allison said hull weight is 990 pounds, has original lip.

Motor-1998 ff 200. Motor has 150 compression, has been cut to be more like a 225, boyesen 4 petal reeds, brucato acu.

Setup-10" Allison jack plate, prop shaft is 1/2" below pad.

This will be a top end prop. Do you guys think it'll turn it?

I have 1.87:1 gears. I'd probably be happy with 85+ out of it. I know there best way to find out is to run it, but I'm waiting on the prop to be delivered lol.

I ran a Hoss Triton on my SS2000/150XR4. Turned a 31 to about 90 mph. You have more HP and a bit more boat, but 85 should be easy. I have big hopes for a 28 Triton this summer - most recent motor is a 200XS

I have an xb2003 with 1.87 gear ratio turning a 26 trophy that will run 85 mph.
I don't know anything about a hyperdrive, but 30 is a big pitch, if you can get it out of the hole it should do good top end.

I have a 26pitch txp and a 27 pitch ally cut trophy I'm deciding between for fishing. My 25 powertech was terrible.

I ran it a little bit with txp last week got to cruise 70-75 with a lot of power left. Probably try a wot pass Saturday with it. And test that trophy out. While waiting on that big prop lol 30 pitch definitely won't be a fishing wheel.

I just got done testing my new 30 P ET and I will say that it is slower than my 28P ET. I have a 2.5 260 built by JSRE 150 lbs on all six, brucato ACU w/steamwheel, intake spacer, light flywheel, opened rod slots, lake cut exhaust chest, drystack 15" offshore mid, sportmaster with starboard hole welded and smothed. running 1/2" above pad with .035 lip. Now, the results for you may be differnt, becuase my motor may make peak horsepower at a higher RPM. I run 101 mph with 28ET, and I had to raise the motor and drive the hell out of it to get 100 mph with the 30 ET. Air temp was about 20 degrees colder when I ran my best with the 28ET.

My 260 hates anything above a 28.

I think it may hate warm, humid weather, if that’s what you are having now. Last time I went out I was a good bit slower due to hot, muggy weather here in Bama.

I tried a 31 Hoss Triton. It was a 30 that Tim tuned to a 31. It was spring when I tried it. Couldn't get the Rs up. Only ran 104. I may would turn a 30 but a good 28 just does everything very good. If I had the normal 1.87 it would be different I'm sure.

Chad, I feel like I am getting close to the max speed I can get out of my boat. With light fuel and maybe another 40 lbs stripped out of her, the best I could possibly expect is 105, although that seems like a long way off from what seems like really pushing for 101. I did see 103 the other day, but I think it was more of a GPS anomaly. What do you think is my next move to try and gain the next 4 mph. I did sand another .05 to .08 of the lip and I am very close to max engine height.

Catfish123 (Bob Stine) did a lot of lip sanding on his 2003. Maybe he will chime in on this. I haven't heard much from him for a while tho.

Hi Dave...........good to "see" you................My lip is about .035". My opinion is that sanding the lip with bigger HP enables one to attempt to run faster without the nose of the boat starting to drop. I believe the boat feels somewhat more "planted" with the smaller lip. I strongly disagree with those who feel that you have ruined your boat by taking off some of the lip. One should be aware though to proceed very carefully when continuing to raise the motor after sanding the lip while looking for a few more mph......................not always a good idea.

What engine height are you at now? Exactly how much lip is remaining? A couple things I see in video, but it may just be cause its a video. You see how your boat is rolling around and generally wants to lay on the starboard side? It looks as if your boat is starting to bow steer(why it's rolling around) which means you're too high for the amount of lip you have so boat is running too flat. Again it may be just because I'm looking at it from a video. The other thing about it laying on starboard side I'm convinced you need more ballast on the port side. The XB2003 once getting to 100, every couple mph takes a little more weight on the port side to stay balanced. I would probably add 15-20lbs in the rod locker.

Chad,

I really appricieate your thoughts I will add some weight to the Port side. I have .027 lip, and engine height is 13/16" above pad. I have just started to notice a 5lb drop in water pressure at WOT. Its still 25 lbs, so I could go up another 16th or 8th maybe, but I think its a good indication that I am getting close.

14" setback? I wouldn't go any higher with that much lip, maybe an 1/8". I think there more but would need more setup tweaking.
