Blew my 225 ProMax today. Considering replacement with either a 115 XS or 150 XS. Getting old and do not enjoy the speed and fuel consumption anymore. Anyone have any stats or opinions?

Darn ..... sorry about the promax. Before this motor I had a '97 150 Evinrude Intruder (carb) on my XB02.

Loaded to fish, (I carry a lot of stuff and consider my boat heavy, 1720 lbs total) w/26 Trophy got a great hole shot and rather decent mileage. 27 Trophy the hole shot was still pretty good and it ran 76 - 78 mph @ 58-6k. Then it melted a piston. and I went for 225 PM.

When I first got the boat and before it had any power at all I considered a 115 and received a lot of encouraging comments from the guys here. Should be a gas miser for sure. Good luck with the new motor.

Bass and Walleye Boat - I miss that magazine - tested one with a 150 and saw 80 mph.

John Tiger tested an SS2000 with a 115 Etec some years ago for Trailer Boats. 72 with two aboard, which is perhaps similar to your application. 81 with just him and a big prop.

I'd go with a 150 HO or a 175XS.

Not to start a BRP vs Yamaha vs Mercury thing at all. But IMO if your ar thinking 115, I would not go with the Merc. Its a very small 3 cyl powerhead. In this hp range I would certainly go with the displacement and look at a V4 vs a I3. The 115HO (130 hp) ETEC should get a look.

That being said, if you are considering both I would certainly go with the V6 150(any brand). You don't HAVE to push the pedal all the way to the floor and the 150 will tote a load much better IMO. Understanding your wanting to not swap controls out, if it were me, I would opt for the 175 Proxs. I would consider the liittle bigger power for resale down the road.

Good Luck and sorry about your PM :-(

I agree... A bigger motor loafing is always better than a small motor working it's *** off.

They don't go any faster than you tell them too but if you ever need the power, either to get home in front of a storm or to get your three buddies out on the water....

my xs2003 was roughly the same weight--slightly heavier and not quite as fast. 75-6 with a 115 OMC Fastrike, 60 with over 1000 lbs aboard. Motor was stock except for cone. The 115 HO should smoke it. 80 in the range running light. Take off 5+ for no cone.

I agree with staying with a V6 and with that You can keep Your controls and that would make an outboard swap very quick, painless and a reason to drink a 6 pack... If Your open to good used engines, then don't forget about the ol' XR-6 150's... They were and still are great engines that get great mileage and parts are abundant if needed... They were still 400 lbs. engines instead of the much heavier newer engines... How bad did You hurt the promax..?

I was in the same boat, was talked in to staying with at least a V6 ending up with a rebuilt 2.5 200 XRI for a good price.

I think Merc is releasing a 150XS, but haven't seen one. If it has the same goodies as the 175XS then go for it, if not I'd go with the 175XS and put 150Opti stickers on the cowl if you have to for insurance, state or lake regulations!

Just couldn't stand having the big bad booty daddy XB02 without at least a lil V-6 on it. :cuss
