Faster, more fun, less special

I repowered from a lightly modified 150 XR4 to a 225 PM. The Promax is a lot of fun, although it is crazy thirsty.

My SS2000 was in the 89.X range a lot with the XR4, which was pretty special for that power, at least to me. Lots of people did not believe it went that fast, but my GPS was consistent. So was my speedo, but the speedo read 3-4 mph high.

Now it's just another 90 plus Promax boat. As I said, more fun, but there are guys near me with 100 mph Promax boats that are not Allisons. And I'm not chasing 100 as I don't need to go that fast.

It does make it harder to say my Ally is better than your ____ when it isn't faster. It's still built better and runs better in rough water, so it's not without merit.

Vking YT running about 103. 1.75 gears, which allows a smaller prop
18 Talon, just over 100
I prefer the SS to either, but have to respect the speed

The 18 foot Talon should be a crazy little ride... That thing will go over in a second if your not careful.

My GS is just another 90 something too... I wouldn't trade it for anything though. Your just used to having the Allison that's all. Lots of people have never been above the low 70's. If you ask them though they all have 100mph boats of course. LOL

That vking was running a 32 et though David, likely a dog everywhere but up top, i seen his video when he ran the 235 omc and it was so over propped I didnt know if it was gonna break over at all.Prop it realistically and its a low 90's ride. The guy did well though getting it where it is since it was basically a junker 3 yrs ago when he bought it according to him.

Won't the ss run well into triples if you desired?

From what I've read it's tough to get a stock PM into the 100 range. I don't plan on finding out. Low 90s with decent acceleration is my goal.

Neither of the mentioned boats would be as well built as an SS, especially given the age of the boats. Or as nice in the rough water I normally have to content with. I just don't get to be smug about my speed anymore. Not a big deal.

I thought ss were faster than grandsports and xb2003 and similar in performance to xb2002? And promax puts a 2002 to trips?

ss with a good promax should go 102-03 easy I would think... I know a couple have anyway.

GS vs SS speed is an interesting question. The following used to be accessible vs the Allison owners home page:

280
GS 100+ (1 entry)
SS 120.7, 121, 120

260

GS 103, 102
SS 115.9, 119.7, 106, 106

225

GS 98.6, 98, 98, 96.3, 98
SS 103, 94, 93

No way a ss is running 120 with a 280. I could believe 110-112. A good 225 will run 100-102 on an ss.
