How many of you do this...
How much do you blunt it if you do.
Is it better for light conditions or heavy conditions
bettter for people running slow like me or better for people running fast
I have a coned cle by titus I run most of the time and a bobs coned 200 that needs to be re puttyed which is on the backburner right now......

hey arron, so your a nosecone specialist too !!! i have to ask ya, were you runnin one of your several modified lowers when you bat turned your perfectly level 97mph gransport that caused you to need mumford surgery? again, a load of bullcrap!!! anyone can call titus or j.c or anyone that does nose mods( all of which are done to sportys) and ask what the mods are. they tell you in BREIF detail. if you think they give away their trade secrets you are wrong. there is a few reasons why they mod the sporty, but you probably know that too. i have a titus cle coned case and a stock sporty,i spoke too him about the sporty mods.i have never heard of anyone blunting a coned cle or 200 case.

a titus coned cle is longer than a sporty. well atleast mine is. i prefer it over my sporty. although my sporty is not modded. american has one that is modded and a stock one says he couldnt tell a bit of difference between the two thats why i am reluctant to send it out or touch it. there is a significant handling difference between the two. imo the titus case handles better. the sporty feels like it pops up and down in and out of the water at certain speeds. i asked titus about this he said it was due to the design of the case ,side view it looks like an elf shoe. (his words) .for a more detailed explanation call him for yourself. with his coned cle i dont get any of that feelin in the boat when drivin.

A Titus modified sporty really doesn't drive much different than a stock sporty. A Titus CONED sporty, on the other hand, is night and day. Mine drives and handles a world better than a stock or modified sporty.

have to say if thats your work looks good!! where did you learn how to do that?the case that american has looks just like that on the cone.
Trial and error...........that was the first one I did, completely by hand. Took a few trips to the lake and more sanding to get it right. Next one went a lot faster with air tools.

I've wondered how an expert became an expert.
Are they conceived with the ability already in their DNA, destined to blunt the nose of a lower unit perfectly the first time tried.
No, most likely they watched, looked, felt, dreamt, envisioned .... and then proceeded to screw up a few before they did something that made an improvement.

Me, I just hack on something till it's useless, then throw it in the corner to collect dust.

What about blunting a bobs cone? Would they run better stock or blunted? Mine runs pretty good stock and sanding the nose would expose the Aluminum right under the paint at the nose. To blunt it more i would be sanding into the Aluminum. Is this advisable or not? BTW why are super speed masters so sharp? They are the fastest grear cases? They have like an arrow head for a tip there so sharp.

We have been blunting Bobs cones and CLE's etc for years. Its not rocket science. You are trying to keep the water attached to the gearcase more easily. We don't blunt ours nearly as much as the ones in the photo, more like the size of your index finger. You could do a speedmaster as well, but their aspect ratio is already good at keeping water adhered pretty well. Also closing off one of the water inlets decreases aeration of the water going by on one side and allows for a slightly better bite. Some do port, some starboard. Smoothing the rough edge by the inlet helps as well , as does filling the drain hole on CLE and 200 cases and using rear drain carriers or just removing the putty etc when filling and replacing it afterwards. Skeg work helps , as does torque tab work.

If the point is to sharp, water sticks to the just about from the front to back. If you blunt it, the water is knocked outward and doesn't collect back to the lu until about half way back creating less drag. Blunt it too much, it doesn't collect back before getting to the prop which will cause blowout. The same applies to the skeg.
