I know that no prop does all things well, but for normal lake running on an XB2003 with a Merc 280, with 8250 limiter, what pitch prop are you guys running? I would also appreciate any information you can give me on the rpms you would expect to get from different pitched props. I have never been in an Allison with a 280, so let me hear all the do's and don'ts.................As always, thanks guys.

Props for sale from Catfish soon?:big grin Im no 280 expert by any stretch of the emagination but as a guess for fun Im guessing 24-26 would be the range from hang on to hang on with better milage with 1.62,s. 26-28 with 1.87,s We,ll see when the 280 guys chime in. :big grin

I run a 26 on my XB02 280 combo. It runs 95.7 mph at 7700 rpm, and I still have some setup work to do on my rig. I like the 26P, it has a great holeshot, and it cruises right around 5700-5800 at 65-70 for what passes as good economy on a 280. But be prepared, they DRINK the gas, because its hard to keep your foot out of it.

Well with my 260, I like a 26 ET for all around use. It runs 102-103 and gets there in a hurry. With ur 8250 limiter, it should be a good choice. Recently ran a 24 eagle et4 hill prop that is 14.75 diameter and it performed very good but it petered out at 96 light loaded. A dragIV or similar prop would also be a good all around prop just not as fast on the big end. If u like Bob, I'll sell u my best prop and y would love it. The cost just for you is 5k, not negotiable.

28-30 pitch with a light load or single person. 26 with a fishing load and a partner. Granted these are my preferences, you can run a 28-30 with a fishing load but my experience is that it'll be slow coming out of the hole and top out at about 7400 RPMs. The 26 will get out of the hole faster and get more RPMs on top with a fishing load.

As for what prop...it's hard to beat a Hoss on a Alli...but many will run good. I want to try one of those OS props and keep hearing about this new Alli prop??

my 2 cents

Catfish 123,

I've got a 280 on my GS, my limiter is 7750. My 27 SRX and my 28 Jacos have no
problem hitting the limiter winter or summer. My older Triton 1 30 hits 7400-7700
winter or summer, my newer Triton 1 30 bites harder, 7300 summer, 7500 winter.
I'm sure the 27 and 28 would hit an 8250 limiter winter or summer. I get about
5 mpg at 4000 rpm, 48 mph with the newer Triton. I boat Lake Mead Nv.

on 1.75's go with a 25-27 for loads, on 1.87's go with 26-28'. for big numbers go anywhere from 2-4pitch higher with whaterever prop your running. I like hoss tritons, yamaha drags "for playing", Et's, worked choppers, and trophy's work pretty decent. I'd prop the boat to run on the rev lite so it'll stay in the 7700-8K range loaded.

Hey Bob...after reading the replies it sounds like a 26P is one option. I just put my Labbed 26P QIV-OT that I bought new up for sale on the prop section. If you want to try it your more than welcome.

26 or 28 Pitch Love me some 280's/260's ''26 is My choice'' but its hard not to keep your foot in it its a blast ..28 is a great all around prop as well if we are refering to 1:87s gears
