Based on how well the xb21 come off plane with the 250 vs my 200 I almost think ratcheting is better... Now if it locks up probably different story

So the non ratcheting gearcase is harder to come off plane with, the 3.2 has a non ratcheting gearcase

Feels easier to set down from wot. Surprised the heck out of me. I was worried going from 2.5 200 to 250 3 liter. Wish I did it sooner. Granted I have xb 21 and not a 20 footer. Almost wish I could reduce setback from 8.5" and try 6.5" however as I seem to have adequate to great lift from 25 mph and up. I think fighting yatch wakes sub 25 mph may be improved with 1-2" less setback. Not sure how to do it without limiting motor height too much

I think the ratcheting vs non-ratcheting issue is overblown. I believe the other aspects of setup and balance are more important, at least at the speeds i'm running.

I've been running my boat for a few weeks now, and I believe gotmyally is correct. I don't feel ant difference between the 225 promax and my 3.2 300 when slowing down from speed. Only been to 91 ish but had no issues with non ratcheting gearcase

I'm running 12 inches . 3\8 below the pad, I haven't ran my chopper yet I would imagine it will be good at even with the pad.

The only difference I've seen between the 2.5 and the 3.2 is, when your making a sharp turn, like turning around in a river at 25 -30 mph. The back of the boat kinda slides a little. Before with the 2.5 it would grab and turn really hard.
