What are the differences between the 250XS and the 300XS?
Can a 250 be easily hopped up to a 300?

From everything I have seen (read) the 250 is more than "250" than the 300 is more than "300" if that makes any sense.

The 300xs is about 305 hp, but its also a 3.2L motor vs a 3.0L motor. Which should give it more torque than the smaller displacement. Torque "moves things" more than pure HP does.

^ ditto. Both are well refined and will idle much the same. Really the only difference is the hp & stickers. Very little changes between the two

2003-2005 250xs are the strongest ones 05 is the best out of the box because it has the higher limiter.2003-2005 have more compression the the 06 and above so the have a bit more hp and require premium. The 03-4 are identical except the limiter. The 05 250xs is around 280hp where as 300xs is about 308-315hp stock.I had a 03 250xs with simon ecu and lightened on it and it was all of 280hp for sure.I now have a 300xs with a DBR kit that makes around 340hp.The 250xs can be had a lot cheaper but it wont have the grunt of the 3.2 300xs but they will rev the same for sure on a lighter boat.I ran mine on a 22 Velocity with a cuddy and would see 78 with 55 gal,my wife and a days worth of boating supplys.A Allison will be much lighter and faster.

You went from 280HP to 340+HP with just an ECU and flywheel change? Or was there more done to the motor to bump it up that much?

I have never heard of 315ish type HP numbers come out of a stock 300xs. A 300x...for sure.

It seems there is a much bigger jump in speed when going from a 225xs to a 250xs than there is from a 250xs to 300xs.

Serious? A 250XS is that much stronger than a 225X? What kind of boat are we talking?

I'm considering doing a 22 Talon with twins or an Allison SS2000. I thought the 225X would be the perfect motor because of its light weight and performance and reliability?

What's a 225X weigh compared to a 250XS? It's 390 pounds vs. 505 pounds? Roughly?

I got 10 MPH difference on my XB21, comparing my best speed with a 225X vs a 250XS.

250XS was faster. Stronger all around on a heavy boat. On a light boat, I'm not sure you'd see that much of a difference.

I think you're pretty close on the weight.

The 280hp was a 250xs with Simon ecu/flywheel/poppit diverter/hyrdrotec tuner...The 340 hp is a different motor, thats the 300xs we have now with the DBR kit.The Simon ecu on the 250xs really just allows the motor to turn up a bit higher stock 03-05 250xs make neer 280hp stock.

"I had a 03 250xs with simon ecu and lightened on it and it makes 340+hp." This would be a direct quotation that originally led to the confusion, and understandably so.

I keep hearing that the early 250xs motors were a 270-ish hp motor in stock form and the later ones (post 2005?) up to the current ones are noticeably not as strong. Does this coincide with the fuel changing from 91 octane to 87 octane or did that come later?

Sorry for the hi-jack, I am just curious.

Correct,03-05 all require higher octane. The 05 is the best out of the box with its 6400 limiter. The 03-04 had a 5850 limiter which made it hard to prop but is the exact same motor as the 05 on everything else.Simon flashes the computer so that the limiter is 6800 on any of the 3 years. The lightend does helf as well as the aluminum compressor pully off a newer motor. When I did the hydrotec tuner I spent a lot of time gasket matching/port and polishing the divider plate and tuner. Not that any one thing was a mind blowing difference but it all combined made for a strong runner.
