    Upper motor mount advise...

When I had my 20" 225x the plates were very slightly worn. The mounts were actually worn more than the plates. If it is not fixed quickly the plates will continue to wear. It seems to be a common problem with them for whatever reason.

    Leakdown test

Do you get consistent numbers when your final set it clockwise? I have been told the way to do it is the first way you mentioned. Unfortuantely, if you look around or listen to different people you will get every answer. There are a group that says leakdown tests are the best one to do...

    Leakdown test

Compression is 144 and 145 on all cylinders. 5 cylinders show 3-5% leakdown and 4 cylinder shows 6-8%. 18 hours on motor. Not sure if it will get better, worse, or stay the same for a while. Guess I will keep my eye on it.

Loaded to gills (6 peeps) fishing and skiing equipment on board.

The model boat drastically changes fuel mileage as well. I can get 4.5-5mpg with a 280 on my ss. 225x would get 5-5.5mpg. If you can get 6-7mpg with a 3L on a xb21 that is doing real well.

    Faster, more fun, less special

No way a ss is running 120 with a 280. I could believe 110-112. A good 225 will run 100-102 on an ss.

    cooling question

I did notice water coming from both exit holes on your promax which is not normal. Looked like most 260/280/drags.

    225 promax

I would run a blend. Mercury premium + would be my choice.

    Plug reading

Look at it this way... if you toast it that gives you another reason to get a 280.
