I seem to remember a discussion (or two) on the subject of aluminum vs wood in Allison transoms but can't seem to find info. via a Search. How can I confirm whether or not my '87 XTB has a wood transom or not? Thanks in advance, Pacman

A call to the factory with Bill Scates can answer for sure but I seem to recall that the XTBs were the last to recieve composite hulls/transoms. I'd say fairly surely that your 87 does have wood in it.

But like I said, call Bill for 110% confidence.

Agree with red. When I had my 89 he said it was the first year they were all no. Wood, but the answer is a phone call away.

Calling Bill is always a good suggestion. I'll have to look up my hull serial number. I don't have any concerns about a composite. The transom looks and seems solid as a rock. Not sure if there is anything I need to keep an eye out for though. I have had wood transoms go away on me in past lives.
Thnx
