IMHO I think that depends on a lot of things,,, Motor, height, weight of boat, ect... But I think most guys are in the 12" range.

I had a 6-8 on my 2004 drag ans ran it first at 6 then went to 8 boat felt real loose at 8 so I moved it back in

what would be the max set back that could be run on a xr2001 drag boat.later Larry D
it depends on the year of boat as well,the newer hull doesnt like as much setback,well actually the pad is already futher foward

id say you either need to bolt it to the transome or run a 14 in. plate with a 6in. hydraulic bolted to it. LOL! Im gonna need all the help I can get.
