I have a 2003 with an 280 and thinking about repowering with a 4 stroke. I would appreciate suggestions and what others have done to power their 2003.

Thanks!

I saw a guy on facebook with a 300R on his. I never heard if you got it running right. I know quite a few that are running just as fast or faster than a 280, with better fuel mileage than a 280.

Fully wet the 300R is 565 lbs. There is one person that has one on an xb2003. I have not heard about the performance, handling or top speed.

1/2 way between the Gay Bay and LA.
If I remember correctly Bill Smith used a hydraulic 4". I have a plate that can be 7" or 8". I wish I could use a smaller one but the way I built the trim system it won't allow less than 7".

some guys with 300xs are still running 14" setback. One guy I know runs 108 fully loaded with trolling motor. I don't know what the other two fastest guys on the east coast are running with their 300xs motors. I imagine you could get away with 8 to 10" with a 300R.

I agree with dubmoney. The 300R will probably have to move in on boats that had 300XS motors. It was that way on the 21 XB Prosport I'm running. It was just too heavy on my boat and too far back when I was set at 13.5". I went to 11.5 and it got way better. The motor has so much torque it will spin super big props up, but it wanted to put the nose way up in the air even with tiny wheels for a 1000' race. Loaded or unloaded it was bad compared to my 300XS. When I say bad it still accelerated even with the 300XS, but you could tell it was going to put a beating on it if the nose would come down. I lost about 1 to 1.5 seconds in the holeshot as a result, which as I said made it even in holeshot to the 300XS. To get the nose down I moved my trolling batteries to the nose. It was a huge help but it killed the top end. When I raced last summer I had the boat cleaned out and it still wouldn't put the nose down fast with only a starting battery in the boat for a 1000' race. I had to move the starting battery to the nose to get it to come down fast and launch fast. After the race I moved my setback in and was able to run with all my batteries in the back like I did with the 300XS. I did eventually switch to a lithium troller to offset the additional weight of the motor.
