rectifier question

MyMariner 225 super mag has been converted to 16 amp charging system. The tach has been jumping and the battery voltage is not showing a charge when the engine it running. Does this sound like a bad rectifier? Is the 16 amp rectifier off a 260 hp the same as used on smaller engines. Thnaks in advance.

yep, sounds like a fried rectifier... and yes, just about any 16 amp rectifier should interchange with each other.

Did you notice a dark brown gooky substance running down the block from under the flywheel ???
