Not the one I was looking for with the 140 Evinrude in the ad that kept me awake for years, but close. Nearly the best part is Bob just showin' off.

Interesting that deck hardware and electrical wiring got low ratings. I think the same of my 2003. Pretty cool article!

Love those old write-ups.

Having run both a 115 and 140 X-flow Johnsons on the same hull, the 140 would have been a couple mph faster (maybe 3) but the 115 will smoke it out of the hole (better for skiiers).

surprising it got high marks for pulling skiers with that 14x24 Merc prop (probably an inline chopper?)

With a price around 10K that was an expensive boat for the times....a buddy bought a 1977 17' Brooks Bullet bassboat (which was from an Allison mold) and the same motor and it was about $5600 with trolling motor, depth finder, ect.

Nice article - thanks for posting

As a kid I used to LOVE Bob Nordskog's writeups. I remember this one and many others over the years. Great read!!!!

I used to love those wake jumping pictures and wanted a boat I could do that with. Can't bring myself to do it now, boats are expensive and my body is older.

There was an outfit in Fla that did performance work on those old Johnson's. Second Effort I think was their name. I had a 83 GT150 with some of their mods and it was a strong motor. Pulled a 27" Raker on a Tidecraft Wildfire to 5800 rpm's, Merc guys hated it, said it had to be a 235. It was trouble free from 83 to 97 and still running good when I sold it and got my first Allison/ProMax.

Yes. It was second effort. Those 235 and 2.6 GT/XP. Motors were mean in there day. Isn't there a pic of an XB2002 with a 2.6GT on the Allison website still?

Love those old reports, that boat is just severely under powered
