Looking for an XS-2003 and wondering about new power. Looks like all the new Mercs are 4.6 and 505#. What are opinions on that in light of Allison's 3.0 and 440# warnings?

225 PM is an Awesome motor a 200xs ia also a good option. You can hop up a 225Promax more and easy to do. There lots of 225 PM for sale all ready done up for you and fresh for reasonable amounts under 8000. Ive had my 225 promax on my GS for over 13 years with very little engine trouble at all to speech of in that time.

A 3 liter 250XS is a good choice. Lots of them out there and they provide excellent performance, fuel economy and local marine techs are familiar with that motor. Set it back 6", put a blade on it with good forward thrust and ride 85 mph all day long on 1/2 tank of fuel.

What ECU? Merc or Brucato? The color fooled me. Most Bosch 56 psi's were black. Nice application without a fuel rail.

I personally wouldn’t be concerned with any engine in the low 500lbs. My xb2003 with a 3 liter is more forgiving than with the 2.5L IMO. I can completely let out the throttle @ 105mph @ 1” above with a non-ratcheting gear case and "I assume” the weight of the 3.2 keeps the bow from slamming and hooking like with the liter 2.5, the boat lays down beautifully. I’ve run the 03s a long time with different 2.5s, so this is my first 3liter on an Allison. I’m still testing and learning but so far I’m very happy, and love the extra torque!
