What is the minimum HP that you would put on an XB2002 or XB2003? Is 150 HP enough or is 200 HP needed? I have a 150 Ficht that I could separate from my current rig to install on one of these boats.

Thanks:)

On an XB-2002 a 150 is the smallest I would go and on an XB-2003 a 200 is the smallest I would go.

Either way it’s just a matter of time until you will want a bigger engine.

engine size depends on what your goal for the boat is. If you arent a speed freak and just want an efficient ride, then you can get away with running smaller motors (even as low as 90). B&WB did an article with an allison running with a 90 a while back... i will have to dig it up

a 2002 with a 3 cylinder opti would be a very sweet package for overall economy and you probably could still run close to 60

if speed is your game, then buy bigger

My only option right now is a 150 Ficht aside from actually purchasing an engine. First and foremost, I am looking for a boat that will carry 4 adults comfortably. The XB2003 seems to fit the bill. That being said, I would like a ride that does 80+ with 1 person. I'm not really a speed freak, but I would like to keep up with my friends when I am alone. The fuel economy of the Ficht is what I am attracted to as well. I guess the real question here is would a 150 hit the 80 MPH mark that I am looking for bolted on the back of a XB2003 alone with no gear. I am not interested in fishing:)

yes, 150 hp will get you to the 80mph mark, but only if you have a low water pickup.

You'd need at least a 29 SRX as well. We rigged a few 150 ProMaxes on 2003s and they work great too. We rigged a 175 Evinrude Carb 60 degree motor and it ran 82 with a 29 SRX. I imagine your FICHT would be right about the same if not a tick slower, but you should be able to run 80. It was a great boat.

it would be a good package on a 2003. they run 60 something with a 90 I do believe. call billy bower in russelville, ar- bower marine for accurate speeds. he has been runnin rudes on em for years and I bet he knows exactly what that motor will do!

I bought a used 88 XB2002 last year with 88 2.4 150 XR4. Ran okay, rerigged with a 175 2.5 EFi Merc and the difference was night and day. Went from a 24" chopper on the 150 to a 26" Hoss Triton when I made the switch and also had the lower redone with Titus mods so I'm sure that made a difference. If you don't fish and want speed I would go bigger, it seems to me if you put a large pitch prop on a 150 that would have to affect hole shot but most of these guy's have a lot more experience than I do. The 150 with the 24" chopper I had was kind of a dog out ot the hole, prop would try to blow out, but after it was on plane it ran great. Just my experience..

I'm just kicking around some ideas. The 150 would come off of my Super Sport boat. I really don't want to split up the rig. But if someone wanted the hull bad enough, I might consider keeping the 150. Of course I want a 200:) Thanks for the info!

150 xb2003

I ran a 115 Johnson Fastrike (non ficht) on an xs 2003. This is roughly the same hull as a xb 2003, slightly lighter. Anyway, it ran 73 on the gps time and time again. It ran 55-60 with 5 200+ lb men aboard. 150 ficht should be an easy 80 on an xb 2003.

If you are not in to fishing you could run 4-6 mph faster without a trolling motor. And you could look into a Grand Sport or a Super Sport just something else to think on.

I am a new owner of a 1999 xb2003 and put a new 150 optimax on it. I was told the 26 trophy would be a good prop to run on this rig. I looked at a prop calculator and it showed I would only get 70mph at 5800 rpm. Should I look to get a bigger prop to get more speed and what prop would do that?

a 27 trophy would probably give you a few more mph...

i would try the 26 out first (since you have it) and get the hang of the boat with it.

Slider...................

All you need to do is have Jack to build you a new 3-4 seater..OR - matter of fact thier is used 4 seater in the parking lot for sale CHEaP... its the yellow-blue-white from the website... take all your 150 stuff off the SS boat and put it on the new 4 seater and you could even use the same trailer... and the 4 seater would run an easy 80-85 with a 150..........and be great on a gas.. so you can pay for that wedding ring!

You could then sell the T1 to someone as drag boat much easier than as a SS rig cause as we know the SS class has slowed down..

Done deal...... I think yu knwo Jack's number ..... :p :p :p

The 150 will work fine. I ran a 140 Zuki on my XB02 until I got a bigger outboard.

Yep, if your not totally obsessed and wrapped up into all out speed a 150 will still easily get you passed the cookie cutters with 200-225's (some with 250's) and a 200 will put you past just about any cookie cutter no matter what is powering it. 8) I think just for re-sale alone I would go with a 150 minimum.
Most anglers getting into a fiberglass boat today want at least a 200 on their rigs. IMO a 150 today is viewed like the 115 was in the 80's (and a 175 is like the 135, a 200 is "today's" 150 hp, 225/175, 250/200 and so on) if that makes sense. :?
