I own an Allison and love it. At the DSRA races last week in Bute Larose Louisiana, I see a lot of Bullets beating Allisons. Once the Allisons add weight to come up to the weight requirments for the class, the Bullets win. The Alllisons would win hands down without the weight added, but this isn't allowed. The Bullets seem to handle the weight better. In the 1400 lb class the Allisons always do better. What can be done to the Allisons to make them handle the weight better? Butch Leslie

I would think when setting up and Allison with extra weight the most critical factor would be where you add the weight. Adding weight at the stern and some toward the bow so the bow comes down fast. Then adjusting your setback and the cupping/pitch on your prop to carry that weight.

I’m not saying they are doing this, but IF they are just taking their Allison set up to run “as is” and just adding the required weight then obviously they are not setup right.

hey butch,
most spectators don't know what's under the cover. they see a class get in the water and think they have the same motor when that's not the case. the bullets are the only boats with modified motors (330+ hp.) the allisons were running stock motors. one allison had a 280 with only a 50lb weight break and the other allison had a 245 carb.

But look at the weight ya gotta add. Keep in mind I weighed in at 1570lbs with no fuel, XB02/2.4 carb. That's boat/motor/prop/driver/lifeline/helmet. Since that weigh in I've lost 30lbs. So look at the weight I'd have to add to run these classes.

I think the Triads run well in Lake Racer because they have the extra surfaces to carry the extra weight coming out of the hole. In the lighter classes you don't need three load bearing points to spread the weight out. Bullets have an interesting pad design, and apparantly they work pretty well in carrying a load. Just my observations.
