Sort of a newbe, well things have changed and I have questions!

Early XB2003 1994 to be exact. I think I read somewhere the pad to transom distance is different then the newer models, therefore requireing a longer setback.
What I'm working with is far from the norm also. I'll start ducking now.
3.0 Johnson with a MAD short center section and a Sports Master lower unit.
Got this creature togeather and running in the water this last Sunday.
Warm it up, get on plane cruse slowly up the lake to build temperature in the block blah blah blah.
To make a long story short the propshaft is at least 1.5" above the pad at least how I measured it . Just a little squirly at times tried to keep the speed down, I've blown out my Champion 19' Bass boat more than once. Didn't like it.

Yes . A new folks member of the "A" boat spin team.

Thats with the set back adjusted all the way down and the motor on its upper mounting holes, as low as it can go. Theres one more configureation left that I can see with this Allison set back plate which is, flip the two brackets that are mounted to the transom. That looks like it will get me 2" lower. This plate at its shortest set back is 11.5"

Now Help me with this Grey basturd morfidite.

I want Quick not Fast. The lakes I see are chewed up already at 7am by wake board bladder boats.

Thanks
Gary

Gary, Welcome to the board and congratulation on the Allison!

I’m not familiar with the Johnson MAD short center, but if it’s like a Merc short shaft 15” midsection then you need the jackplate that has the side plates that allow you to move the rear jackplate up or down.

The Allison jackplate I am referring to is a manual one that has a series of holes three holes in the side plates that allow you to move the jackplate as far as setback in three different setbacks such as 10”, 11.5”, 13”. Then the side plates also have holes in it to mount it in a lower setting for the 15” short shaft.

This statement you made has me a little concerned, “I've blown out my Champion 19' Bass boat more than once!” You be careful with this Allison, if you can blow a Champion out then this Allison might get you seriously hurt.

I see you are from California, any chance of you making the Western Allison Rally in May? We will be at Clear Lake May 17th through the 22nd?

I would flip the plates that are mounted to the transom. If this gets you low enough you are good to go. If theres enough meat left on the plate you can redrill it to mount lower; a good machine shop could do this job, however some owners have drilled their own. I think most of the 03 guys prefer around a quarter below to a quarter above. Eleven inches sounds like a good starting point for the heavier motor. Quick is a good thing.

Help!

Hey thanks for the input
John Richied, the plate is as you say. The bat turns in the Champ were induced by 1. A huge wake left by a ski boat making a U turn, trimed down and hooked it, wife went out at about 60, I bent the steering wheel.
2. The very early Teleflex hyd steering, wife tried to take chart graph of the consoul, I pushed her head down so she cracked the gel coat on the consoul. 3. she tried to fly out on her side but we were not going fast enough so she stayed in the boat. She made me send the steering system back, about a year later they came up with the sea star, sea star pro and sent me one . Wife has stayed in the boat .

On the other board YOU accused ME of being Mr X running Y but I'm only another Gary. My excuse for the WAR is our last qualifying WON Bass tournament is on that saturday. The airborn wife is my team partener, so guess what.

Bulls Eye on the plate. The engine is probably very close in weight now. -15 lbs lower unit, -20 lbs short center and shortened clamp unit also the MSD w/lite flywheel and the EFI are lighter too.

ALLISONMAN
Hopefully I can get lower than that .25 below and work up a little at a time.

Maybe if I can make the WARI can get some tips from Mr X also after he makes short work of all of us.

Thank you again
