Has anyone done a titus or jc mod on 300xs with a sportsmaster lower unit? If so, can you explain the change in the steering torque? I can't imagine anyone using this engine without hydraulic steering.

Thanks,
Robert

Does it have the factory cast-in torque tab on the lower unit? If so, take a file to the left side and reshape it so that it follows the contour of the right side. That will make a noticeable difference. You can also work out some of the steering torque thru setup....ie, engine height and prop selection.

I don't quite understand you post. Is the left side the port side of the boat when looking at the bow? And please describe in more detail how to file off the metal. This lower unit is bone stock from the factory.

By your description it seems fairly simple but I don't have any experience in this area...

So I am hesitant to get a file and ; you get the picture.

Thanks for the response.

Yours does have a torque tab cast into the back of the skeg, right? Mercury sells straight-skeg lower units as well, but hopefully yours has the cast in torque tab.
