Hi everybody! Figured I’d update you all with my progress thus far with the boat. I have a 2021 grand sport with a Mercury 150proxs purchased one year ago almost to the day. I’ve since had the gear case coned locally by Ronnie Holzmacher. The gears in this are 2.08 requiring me to run huge props. A 30promax would hit the soft limiter around 78mph. A 32 near the limiter at 80mph. It was a bit difficult to drive with that prop. I started 3/8 below the flat part of the pad coming up in small increments. Currently about 3/16 below the flat part of about 1/8 below the lip. I had a local mechanic swap the gears out to 1.85 from the older verado 200-275 case which is identical. Now re testing everything. Happy to swing a small prop it is for sure easier to drive. First run was 78.5 at around 5830rpm Now my top end prop will likely be a 28 promax. Maybe a 30Et. Likely end up around low 80’s I’m thinking. Will keep everyone posted. I think I need to come up a bit. I know everyone says 1/4” below the pad. My boat is telling me it wants higher. Maybe cause it’s slower then the 90-100mph boats I can get away with more height. I think I’ll wind up around even or so with the pad. Anyway figured I’d give a little update if anybody out there is curious about the 150proxs.

Brandon, I have had similar results with 150 pro xs fourstroke on a xb 2003. I found a good used standard 150 gear case that Miller Hunt in Killen, Ala. coned for me. It has a 1.92 gear ratio. Mine runs 80 to 81 @6000, depending on water conditions, with a 29 pro max even with pad. When the wake boats thin out in october I plan to do more tweaking. Going up 1/8 to 1/4 should let it turn another 100 to 200 rpms. The 150 pro xs is capable of that but that would be max. The 1.85 gears you have should be really good for prop options. Keep posting your testing results and I will do the same. Thanks.

Hi Billy! Nice to hear of others experimenting with this package! I think I need to come up higher to get some more RPMs out of the 28 promax. 5830RPM @78.5 mph and I’m 3/16 below the pad. Think if I come up to even or so that will be worth a couple hundred RPM maybe get me low 80’s.
