I don't understand why it has a problem staying in the water, and I'm wondering why a higher pitched Chopper turns more rpm's than a Yamadrag... Anyway, typically a Yamaha Drag or an ET will out accelerate most anything else in the realm of a short track...

i would try and prop that motor around 7100-7200..i think the mod vps have cast pistons ,i would look for a hoss triton for a great prop.darris worked with dave alot when devoloping the xb models in thoseyears and it shows..

also i dont think you would have a problem with the transom but you could get the metal plate from allison that goes on the transom and put a plate on the inside,i would get the 10-12 adjustable plate and start at 10 and work your way back

I have a 88 xtb with a mercury 280. It has a 15 inch mid section. 10 inch set-back, even with the pad. I run a 27 trophy which gets me high 90's with tournament loads and for speed i play with a 28 et.
