What is the Merc. p/n for a water pump kit for a 2.5L Sportmaster gearcase?

I had noticed my water pressure being low at idle after I plugged the left side hole. I don't know if the plugging caused it since it was due for a water pump anyway. Anybody else this issue?

Thanks,

The merc part number for the water pump impeller is 47-89984T 4.

I just replaced the one in my sportmaster.

Mike, when you say you plugged the left side is you talking about the portside of the boat?

The side you want to plug is the intake on the starboard side, the same side your starter is on. That’s the side your prop gets its water from and the idea is the water will be cleaner to the prop.

I plugged the right (starboard side) nosecone hole on a Torquemaster with a Bob’s nosecone I once had and had no change in performance or water pressure.

Also when you replace the water pump it’s a good idea to replace the base, housing and all the gaskets.

That's right if you tighten the cover nuts to 20 inch-lbs like the factory manual says, you WILL crush the housing! The manual is WRONG!

I went rounds with Mercury a few years back about this...

Get R Done

I got it changed and on the water hose the idle was 12psi which I know is not accurate due to the water presure from the hose.

The impeller sure is hard to get in the can though.

I guess I am about ready for the rally.

pump

hey i had a new pump in mine and got into some sand at the beach and lost pressure at idle , had good pressure at speed but motor ran cold , had plenty of pee stream, took off the pressure relief valve to find a rock holding it open, so if new pump no fixxy pressure check the valve, make sure u look at it to know which one it is and get ur gaskets before u remove it.
