I've thought of re-powering forever. That's how I came to own my SS2000. I bought a faster boat instead of more HP for the old boat. That worked out very well.

My question now is the reliability of old motors. My 1990 XR4 has never been apart. I bought it NOS on a Stream in 1993. The trim broke years ago and I overpaid a dealer to fix it. I've blown up 3 lower units. Other than that, just turn the key and go.

Should I sell it and get out happy? I don't think the hour count is that high, but it is old. But then what to replace it with? Most 225 PM I see are 90's vintage. Older than I'd want to buy for a motor to last another 10-20 years.

200XS are rarer than hens teeth where I live, and I'm not confident of early optimax technology.

Bite the bullet and buy a 175XS? Go mad and buy a new 200XS? Most of the time I run 50's to 70's. Would a 150 HO Etec be enough? I think the 150 HO would out accelerate my XR4 by a lot, but be slower on top.
