New XB2002 owner

On the 2002 I've been hearing alot of different ways for the set up, I've heard from 1/4" below the pad to 1-1/4" above the pad with a low water pickup. What is the right set up?

What motor, lower unit, setback? Most are close to even, plus or minus 1/4"

I'm running a worked 175 with Bob's torquemaster Low water pickup with a 12" Hydramotive jackplate.

Start 1/4" below and work your way up gradually.
