Cleaning up my dash wiring. Need a little help. In the Allison harness to gauges in the dash there are 2 wires I am not sure about? One is brown/blue stripe and the other is purple. What are they for?
thanks.

Harness

Is that the boat wiring harness or the engine and key switch harness. If it is a Mercury key harness the purple is ignition positive (positive with key on) and tan/blue is, I believe the warning horn wire.

Yes.........

If it is a Mercury key harness the purple is ignition positive (positive with key on) and tan/blue is, I believe the TEMP warning horn wire.

thanks xsive and yellowallison, Yes, this is the harness that runs up to the instruments/gauges. I just removed the oil injection system and up until now the horn did work for the oil injection which to my understanding is 2 short beeps. However, the tan/blue stripe wire was not hooked up to anything. Does this mean horn for temp was not working? Where does the tan/blue stripe wire tie into.
thanks

Tan/blue wire

http://www.biggerhammer.net/mercury/factory_manuals/Service Manual PDFs/TwoStroke/824052r3/2d.pdf

I'm not sure if the link above will work. But I appears that according to the wiring diagram in section 2d of the 135/150/175/200... 2stroke manual, that the tan blue wire is for the "Visual Warning light and would not be connected unles you had a visual warning light installed. Good idea from yellow allison about grounding the temp sender to check horn. If you have a ProMax or Production oil injected type motor you should get the "beep beep beep" when you turmn the key on. PM me if you need any help. I won't see it until tonight though.
