Just though I would let you guys in the south east know about a shop that does good work.

Noah Legear from Eagle One Performance Products ( Panama City, FL ) rebuilt my Merc XR6 150 HP fishing motor. He has a full machine shop and was able to cut my heads to 32cc, cut my ports, and machine the exhaust chest. He reassembled the motor with forged pistons, Boyseen reeds, and Bob's tunner. He then put in some break in time on the motor and ran a torque and horsepower curve on his in house dyno. Corrected crankshaft horsepower came in at 281 HP. Not bad for a carb motor.

This past weekend, after puting some more break in time on the motor, I had a run on Lake Seminole with the Hydromotive and Scream & Fly prop testing meet on Saturday.

Leaving my XB 02 setup the same as before the rebuild including my Hydromotive 28 Quad 4 O/T --- the boat ran 99.8 with a flash reading of 100 MPH. This was not the best of conditions because of the wind driven chop and other boat wakes but it was still a good before and after comparison. I plan on doing some more testing with some three blade top end props.

Rebuild

Jim, If you don't mind me asking. What did the rebuild run you?
When it comes time to re-ring my 280 I'd like to use them. I'm only a couple hours away in Eufaula, AL. I don't really have anyone I trust with it here!

Lastredally,

I think his prices are very fair and reasonable. There was a lot of labor with my rebuild. I brought him a complete engine, so disassembly, plus all the machine work, plus reassembly was in the neighborhood of $1500. The parts such as pistons were extra but still at a good price.

If you get a lower quote for this level of work, be carefull, remember the quality of the end product is whats important.

Iv'e done business a lot of guys on S&F board. Don't know of any mechanic that didn't have a crap sandwich sometime in their dealings. If those guys got paid by the hour they wouldn't make minimum wage!!! Just the time they spend on answering questions from customers takes up hours. I like ole Noah and he has become a good friend and teacher of mine as well as a lot of other builders I have dealt with. Got a couple I would like to see sink in their boat but that is another story. My two cents worth
